Jessica "Evil" Eye Moments After Her Destruction of Zoila Gurgel
What’s Next For The Women of Bellator?
Big news came out of Bellator with the release of WMMA fighters like top ranked Jessica Aguilar, Jessica Eye and Felice Herrig. I think I say this for all WMMA fans that this could not have came soon enough.
She can go to 135 in the UFC or probably immediately challenge for the Invicta 125 title. Current champ, Barb Honchk, has her first defence coming up against Leslie Smith, so maybe Eye fights a "warm up" or "#1 contender" fight with MIchelle Ould or Munah Holland, two other former Bellator fightes that I’m sure have been released.
The UFC title picture is a long ways away, though, with Ronda/Miesha2 at the end of the year, and Zingano next in line, that’s at least 6-8 months. And don’t forget Ronda’s new found movie aspirations. Could Eye hang with Kaufman and Davis? Davis maybe, Kaufman is a hard fight for anyone not named Ronda Rousey.
Jessica says she cuts quite a bit of weight to make 125, so it might be impossible soon for her to make flyweight and the UFC is without doubt more lucrative and more exposure.
I don’t care where she goes, I just want her to fight Megumi one more time. Their first fight wasn’t super controversial like Machida/Shogun1, BUT, fuck if you’re going to be considered the #1 fighter in the world, you can’t do it with a close decision.
I’m a huge fan of Megumi, but honestly, I just want this to have no question who the #1 is before Megumi retires. Imagine Shogun not getting a rematch with Machida. Afterwards… Strawweight might be the first division in WMMA history that has depth and is all in one organization if Aguilar signs. (I don’t count Bantamweight after Ronda Miesha Kaufman Zingano the level and athleticism drops off)
Best of the Rest
Felice Herrig made it official that she was going to Invicta. Michelle Ould and Munah Holland can add some life to the Invicta flyweight division. And I think Julia Berezikova had something going on with Bellator, so her coming to Invicta would be good too.
This has been a great year for WMMA, to say the least.
