Chael Sonnen was absent from his normal role of UFC Tonight co-host on Tuesday, due to his upcoming fight against former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. In his place, seated next to Kenny Florian, was Daniel Cormier.
Sonnen may not have been on set for the show, but he still paid a visit via the magic of Skype. Sonnen, after a very brief introduction where he complimented Florian and Cormier on their suits, telling them they looked like "Mayhem" Miller’s defense team, broke into a poem:
On August 17 a fight’s going to take place
And everybody’s screen saver will be Wanderlei’s face
Not scowling or pouting or pounding his fists
Or stumbling with English or rolling his wrists
But watching in horror as docs try and wake
His little henchmen Shogun who made the mistake
Of cutting in line on my way to his boss
And ended up knocked out and trying to explain the loss
Sitting at the press conference with Wanderlie outside
Hailing a cab for a panic filled ride
To Logan Airport or better still
To the docks to stowaway on a boat to Brazil
To get away from this gangster right here
Who eventually leave him face down and end his career
Clearly Sonnen is angling for a fight with Wanderlei Silva following Saturday’s bout against Rua.
Is that the fight to make or should Sonnen pack up this whole fighting thing and think about going on a spoken word tour?
Sonnen faces Rua on Saturday in the main event of UFC Fight Night 26, which will take place at Boston’s TD Garden. The fight will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1.
