As the world of MMA continues to get dominated by the UFC, a smaller organization will rush to save their ratings. As Bellators ratings have fluctuated, they continue to try to market new ideas, like the new founded reality T.V show Fight Master, then toying with the horrible idea of a Rampage v.s. Jones J.r. boxing match, but this idea takes the cake a PPV fight, but not just any PPV fight Tito Ortiz washed up and old facing off against the aging Rampage Jackson. This sounds rushed all around and lets take a breakdown at what is wrong with this idea.
Until this point Bellator has offered all free events. This will obviously be a huge change as Bellator offers MMA fans who do not want to drop fifty bucks on a UFC fight decent competition on T.V. Bellator isn't the only free MMA organization, but it certainly is the most prestigious. Fighters that could hold their own in the UFC stay in Bellator, making it somewhat prestigious. So the main problem with this PPV event is if MMA fans are going to start to be forced to pay to watch any organization, why not just spend it on the UFC. Bellator's main draw fans aren't die hard Ben Askren fans, they get their fans from having free events. So the idea of making fans pay for this below-average promotion is almost absurd. Consistency wins fans.
The second big problem is the fighters, most obviously. Tito Ortiz has seen better days, being 38 years old and fighting for sixteen years has caused wear and tear on his body. In his last nine fights, yes nine Tito has one win, one draw, and seven losses. A pretty dismal record, to say at the least, while on the other hand Rampage is 35 years old and has fifteen more fights than Tito. Rampage is less washed up than Tito though in his last five fights he has two wins and three loses. Much better than Ortiz. So even though Rampage is almost as old and has more miles, he has recessed as much as Tito making this most likely a one sided fight in favor of Jackson.
Re-cap, unless this fight is surrounded by some amazing bouts, or the price is around twenty bucks many MMA fans will attend bars, or just wait till the next UFC fight night rolls around. By the way not trying to hate on Bellator as i do enjoy the free fights, and Fight Master, there is just no way we should pay for Bellator. Fight Prediction: Rampage TKO RD 2
