Two young welterweights are set to battle at UFC 166 in Houston. The UFC confirmed on their official website that T.J. Waldburger will fight Adlan Amagov on October 19th on the night's preliminary card.
Waldburger (16-7) hails from Texas and at just 25 years old can be considered a seasoned veteran. He is coming off a technical submission win over Nick Catone at the TUF 16 Finale in Las Vegas, giving him his 3rd submission win in the UFC and 2nd SOTN bonus. His first fight of 2013 was supposed to be against Sean Pierson at UFC 161, but he was one of the many fighters who had to bow out due to injury. Before signing with the UFC, Waldburger competed in Shark Fights and even notched a win over Pat Healy in 2009.
Amagov (12-2-1) is a Chechen fighter who trains at Greg Jackson's camp in New Mexico. The welterweight striker went 3-1 in Strikeforce, with the singular loss coming at middleweight vs. Robbie Lawler. His UFC debut was a successful one, as he defeated Chris Spang by unanimous decision at UFC on Fuel 9 in Sweden. The 26-year-old has won 7 of 12 fights by KO or TKO.
UFC 166 is headlined by a heavyweight trilogy meeting between champion Cain Velasquez and challenger Junior dos Santos.
