Mike Pierce picked up a second-round TKO victory over David Mitchell in the opening bout of UFC 162.

Mike Pierce continued to move his way up the welterweight ladder in the opening bout of UFC 162 with a second-round TKO victory. Pierce, who was fighting on Facebookd despite being a highly-regarded 170-pounder, grinded away for the first half of the fight until he connected with a left hook that sent Mitchell to the mat. Ground and pound brought a finish to the fight at 2:55 of round two.

The first round saw the two men clinching up a lot early , with Mitchell landing a bunch of knees on the inside. Pierce was able to land some rights when the two had brief periods of separation. Mitchell was warned for a low knee. The round was close, but Pierce probably pulled it out by being a bit more aggressive.

The first minute of the second round was the same, with the two fighting in close against the cage. Pierce looked for a takedown but Mitchell was easily able to resist. More clinch work in the center of the cage saw Mitchell landing a bunch of body punches. As they separated though, Pierce clubbed him with a left hook that sent Mitchell to the mat. Pierce swarmed with punches on the ground and the referee was forced to jump it.

The win was Pierce's fourth straight in the octagon and improved his UFC record to 9-3 overall. Mitchell fell to 1-3 in the octagon.
