Get all the details on the fight card for the UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman PPV in our Bloody Elbow primer series. Here, we look at Cub Swanson vs. Dennis Siver.

This Saturday July 6, the UFC is live in Las Vegas for UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman. In the PPV opener, Cub Swanson (19-5 MMA; 4-1 UFC) faces Dennis Siver (21-8 MMA; 10-5 UFC). This Featherweight fight kicks off the five fight UFC 162 PPV card. The UFC rankings have Swanson as the #5 contender at Featherweight, Siver right below him at #6. UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman airs live on PPV this Saturday July 6, with the main PPV card beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT.

This is a great choice to open up the UFC 162 PPV. In Swanson vs. Siver you have a classic strikers battle. Swanson brings a more boxing focused approach to his stand-up game, while Siver is more of a traditional kickboxer. Both men are well-rounded mixed martial artists, but it's the striking game that remains their calling cards. This is a chance for one of them to impress and to make a case for a shot at the Featherweight title.

How do these two stack up?

Swanson: 29 years old | 5'7" | 70" reach
Siver: 34 years old | 5'7" | 70" reach

What have these two done recently?

Swanson: W - Dustin Poirier (UD) | W - Charles Oliveira (KO) | W - Ross Pearson (TKO)
Siver: W - Nam Phan (UD) | W - Diego Nunes (UD) | L - Donald Cerrone (Sub)

How did these two get here?

Many were ready to write off Cub Swanson when he made his UFC debut in 2011. The longtime Greg Jackson trainee had a decent but unremarkable WEC run, but has really come alive in the UFC. He's now on a 4 fight winning streak, with all 4 wins coming against tough competition. Along the way, he's racked up multiple KO of the Night bonuses, and is coming off a major win over Dustin Poirier. Things are just working for the 9 year veteran right now, and it's a pleasure to watch.

More on UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman

Dennis Siver was a quiet fixture of the UFC undercard for years before really coming into his own in 2010. He had a nice 4 fight win streak at Lightweight in 2010/2011, but was handled by Donald Cerrone in a tough loss. After that, Siver dropped down to Featherweight, where he is now 2-0. A tough kickboxer, Siver is known for his spinning back kick, but has also really improved his wrestling game. It will be interesting to see if he tries to outstrike the striker here, or if he plays it smart and tries to ground Swanson.

Why should you care?

Two hard-hitting KO fighters here. I'm excited to see how it plays out.
