Well, you don't hear stories like this every day in MMA. It appears that a Brazilian fan got a little too close for comfort for UFC 162 headliner Chris Weidman. Weidman, who relayed the story to MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani in the video above, was harassed by a Brazilian guy that actually attempted to stab Anderson Silva's last opponent, Chael Sonnen, a few months ago. Here's what he had to say:
"Some Brazilian guy, and I guess he was a problem for Chael too, he's really a media guy, but I guess he's sneaky. He went to where the fans were, he didn't have a camera or anything like that. I just signed something for him...then all of the sudden he's like, 'Do me a favor and lose in the first round.' Then I find out this guy is a problem. He was waiting out front. I guess he tried to like stab the jeans of Chael Sonnen. He didn't try to stab me, but he was guilty of being a guy who could have possibly stabbed me. Security took care of him. They got rid of him."
I know fans can get a little out of hand sometimes, but that's a tad over the line. It reminds me of the old days in pro wrestling where the bad guys would get fans so riled up that the wrestlers would get attacked and stabbed. But this is a real sport, and it's not like Weidman was been disrespectful towards Silva. If he is indeed a media guy, I hope the UFC deals with that ASAP.
