The UFC advertized the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter this Saturday night during the UFC on Fox 8 broadcast. That trailer can be viewed on Youtube. WMMA blogs WombatSports and MMARising scoured the footage to identify female participants. Here's a list of WMMA fighters they saw in the ad:
- Jessamyn Duke
- Peggy Morgan
- Sarah Moras
- Tara LaRosa
- Revelina Berto
- Jessica Rakoczy
- Julianna Peña
- Tonya Evinger
- Raquel Pennington
Footage of fighters competing in red and blue outfits (or black) are of fights to get into the house. The majority of the ad's in-cage footage is from those initial fights so as not to reveal the outcome of those fights or the draft. But there are two exceptions: Jessamyn Duke and Tonya Evinger can both be seen wearing Team Rousey's green apparel. Duke trained with Rousey prior to her Invicta FC 5 fight with Miriam Nakamoto, so it's not surprising that Rousey would pick her.
Back in May, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer released a list of rumored female TUF 18 cast members. That list contained 17 names, whereas only 16 fighters compete to get into the house, so it was never going to be entirely accurate. A few more notes about that list: Meltzer didn't include Sarah "Cheesecake" Moras, though she clearly made it because she's in the ad. On the other hand, Ashlee Evans-Smith evidently did not, as she was scheduled to fight at CFA 11 in May and is now booked for CFA 12 in October against Fallon Fox. Finally, Valerie Letourneau is now scheduled to fight in October at the inaugural Quebec Mixed Martial Arts League event. So if Letourneau made the cast, she was probably eliminated early.
Two final notes on the ad: At the 18 second mark, Rousey and Tate walk into their team rooms, but Tate's door is marked with a Team Zingano sign. Guess it really was a last minute switcharoo. Lastly, Rousey's close friend and training partner, WMMA fighter Marina Shafir made an appearance in the video (as a coach). No word yet on whether Shafir pooped on Miesha Tate's cupcakes.
I omitted any mention of male cast members who appeared in the ad. If anyone can identify them in the comments, that'd be swell.
