Robbie Lawler made the best of a huge opportunity at UFC 157 when he knocked out Josh Koscheck. After an inconsistent streak in Strikeforce, he looked to prove himself at UFC on Fox 8. He face Bobby Voelker who made his name in the Strikeforce: Challengers shows, but lost his last fight against Patrick Cote at UFC 158.
As always, Lawler was looking for that big KO punch in the early exchanges. When he didn't hit it immediately, he secured an early takedown. He wasn't able to hold Voelker down long, but managed to bust open his nose. Lawler mixed it up with kicks, Voelker tried to block but they were hard enough that he still felt the impact. Lawler clearly the better striker here, but Voelker did nothing to change the fight.
Voelker continued to not force the ground game in round two after giving up the first. Lawler capitalized and blasted him with a head kick to force the stoppage.
Robbie Lawler TKO'd Bobby Voelker at 0:24 of round 2
Inexplicably, Lawler is on a 2-fight win streak in the UFC and ranked as a top 10 welterweight. Voelker is now on a two-fight skid and will probably be lucky to get another shot in the octagon.
