Iv been a long time fan of American Ninja Warrior since finding it on G4 years ago. Some combination of watching those who worked so hard at it finish, the underdog stories and of course the wipeout failures.
Tonight's qualifying round took place in Denver on Nbc and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw none other than former Flyweight title contender John Dodson standing at the starting line. First off ANW obviously didn't know much about Dodson as the profile video only talked about Dodson as a small guy who did big things despite his size with barely mentioning that he was in the Ufc and no mention of his title contention.
Dodson being one of the most charismatic and athletic fighters on the Ufc roster had me excited for his run so when it started I was not surprised he took right off with almost no problems at the quad steps and the log roll, he almost lost it on the rotating bridge but caught him self from the stumble and sored through the jump hang after. Then came the grip hang I thought Dodson would have troubles here being shorter with less wing span. Before attempting Dodson gave a wave to the fans with his usual big goofy grin on his face. As he mounted the grip hang he looked confident and made a great transition through the first gap then as he went to pass the second gap Dodson looked like he was gonna do it great use of his body getting it into motion to leap across and he had plenty of distance but his grip just wasn't there as it looked like he reached for the insides of the grips rather then the outer edge and Dodson went splashing into the water at a nearly a minute twenty-three.
I was saddened to see Dodson didn't get a post run interview ether further showing that the show didn't realize what a great personality they had just watched. since I started watching this show I always wondered how a bigger MMA name would do on the course and after watching Dodson I wanna see more hopefully others will try in coming seasons sound of in comments which fighters you would like to see and who you think would do the best.
