The injury bug has struck once again, and this time it affects UFC Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann 2. Brazilian welterweight Paulo Thiago was scheduled to face TUF 17 champ Kelvin Gastelum in Gastelum's 170 lbs debut, but a knee injury will prevent Thiago from competing on August 28th. MMA Fighting has the details:
A left-knee injury has forced veteran welterweight Paulo Thiago out of his Aug. 28 UFC Fight Night bout against Kelvin Gastelum.
Brazil's Globo reported the news Monday. MMAFighting confirmed the report with UFC officials, who stated a search is on for a replacement to fight Gastelum in Indianapolis.
Thiago (15-5) is coming off a grueling if not unspectacular win against Michel dos Prazeres at UFC on FX 8 in May. The unanimous decision performance snapped a two fight losing streak, which included a brutal KO loss to Siyar Bahadurzada in Sweden.
Gastelum (6-0) became the youngest TUF winner in the show's history with an upset win over Uriah Hall in the season 17 finale. Hall came in with a significant amount of hype after his brutal knockout wins on the show. The 21-year-old soon announced a drop to welterweight, and now he needs a new opponent on a month's notice.
