Bellator's Season 9 welterweight and featherweight tournament finals look to be set for this fall's Bellator 107. Featuring New Jersey natives Kurt Pellegrino and Tom DeBlass, the event will take place Nov. 15, 2013 from Ovation Hall at Revel Atlantic City.
Pellegrino makes his return after a three fight losing skid sent him into retirement nearly two years ago. Dispatched in just 50 seconds by Patricky Freire at Bellator 59, Pellegrino's rude welcome came on the heels of back to back losses to George Sotiropulos and Gleison Tibau in UFC.
"I've been in retirement for the last two years, but I've been in the gym every day since and the competitive fire has still been burning inside of me," Pellegrino said. "Every morning I wake up I realize I had the same dream as the night before, and it's to go out the way I want. With Bellator back in Atlantic City, this is my opportunity to end my nightmare and go out the way I want, the way I deserve."
His opponent, Saul Almeida, is also riding a three fight losing streak, albeit against spottier competition. Oddly enough, Almeida has gone the distance in each of his last eight fights, win or lose. An opponent for DeBlass is yet to be named.
Kicking off Sept. 13 at Bellator 99, the featherweight tournament features matchups of Patricio Freire vs. Diego Nunes, Shahbulat Shamhalaev vs. Akop Stepanyan, Desmond Green vs. Fabricio Guerreiro and Andrew Fisher vs. Joe Taimanglo.
