The injury bug seems to have narrowed its sights on next month's UFC 163. Reports are claiming that UFC newcomer Jose Maria Tome will step in for Phil Harris to face John Lineker in a flyweight bout. Also, it sounds like 'Ultimate Fighter' alum Clint Hester is out of his middleweight bout with Cezar Ferreira. Both fights were slated to appear on the night's main card.
UFC 163: Aldo vs. Jung takes place Aug. 3, 2013 from HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will defend his title to Chan Sung Jung. Aldo was originally slated to face former WEC champion Anthony Pettis before he was forced to withdraw after suffering a knee injury.
In addition to the recent shake up, recall that the event's original co-main event between Josh Koscheck and Demian Maia was cancelled last week after Kos suffered an injury. We also learned yesterday that grappling phenom Robert Drysdale was forced to withdraw from his UFC debut after coming down with a case of staph infection.
Obviously not great news for the UFC as the event looms just a few weeks away. If the Hester reports prove correct it would mean four cancelled main card bouts.
