The UFC is reportedly planning another event in Brazil and have a fight lined up for the October 9th card. Ivan Raupp of Combate.com reports that Brazilian welterweight prospect Erick Silva will take on veteran Dong Hyun Kim at a TBD venue. If this report is true then the card would be broadcast on Fox Sports 1, as October 9th is a Wednesday.
Silva (15-3, 1 NC) returned to the win column in June with a 71 second submission win over Jason High at UFC on Fuel 10 in Fortaleza, Brazil. The 29-year-old has won SOTN honors twice as well as a FOTN bonus in his loss to Jon Fitch at UFC 153. Silva has yet to record consecutive wins in the UFC but still remained competitive at times against Fitch and dominated Carlo Prater before his DQ for back of the head strikes.
Kim (17-2-1, 1 NC) has been with the UFC since 2008 and has recently posted dominant performances over Siyar Bahadurzada and Paulo Thiago. The South Korean has losses only to Carlos Condit and Demian Maia, although his no contest vs. Karo Parisyan was originally ruled a loss before Parisyan failed his drug test. Otherwise, "Stun Gun" has been a consistent and effective fighter in the UFC, and a win over Silva could potentially place him in the title picture.
So far the UFC has been to Sao Paulo (FX 7, January), Santa Catarina (FX 8, May), Fortaleza (Fuel 10, June), and have upcoming cards in Rio de Janeiro (163, August) and Belo Horizonte (FS1 Fight Night: Teixeira vs. Bader, September).
