UFC on Fox Sports 1 #3 is already loaded with top 10 fighters in three different weight classes, and it looks like you can add another top 10 matchup on the card. Bantamweights Raphael Assuncao and T.J. Dillashaw are reportedly booked for the September 4th card in Belo Horizonte according to Ivan Raupp of Globo. The fight will go through pending medical clearance for Assuncao.
Assuncao (20-4) was a veteran at featherweight, most notably fighting (and losing to) the likes of Urijah Faber and Erik Koch. The dropped to bantamweight in 2011 and is undefeated in his new weight class, with victories over Johnny Eduardo, Issei Tamura, Mike Easton, and Vaughan Lee. He is ranked 6th in the UFC's official bantamweight rankings.
Dillashaw (8-1) has been on a tear since losing the TUF 14 Finale to John Dodson by early TKO. The Team Alpha Male product has scored wins over Walel Watson, Vaughan Lee, Issei Tamura, and most recently Hugo Viana. His TKO stoppage of Viana came merely a month after knocking out Tamura. This string of impressive performances has propelled him to 9th in the UFC rankings.
Glover Teixeira and Ryan Bader headline UFC on FS1 #3, with Ronaldo Souza and Yushin Okami taking the co-main event slot. Also on the main card is a flyweight tilt between Joseph Benavidez and Jussier Formiga. It is likely that Dillashaw/Assuncao would round out the main card if made official.
