UFC 166: Daniel Cormier hopes to face Roy Nelson

Thearon W. Henderson

UFC Heavyweight Daniel Cormier hopes that Roy Nelson re-signs with the organization so they can settle their "unfinished business" at UFC 166 in Houston on October 19.

Former Ultimate Fighter winner Roy Nelson finished the last fight on his UFC deal with a loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC 161. So far he hasn't re-signed with the organization although his manager is optimistic about the negotiations. Someone else is rooting for Nelson to return to the UFC as well: Strikeforce Grand-Prix champ Daniel Cormier.

Cormier is looking for one last fight at Heavyweight before moving down to aim for Light Heavyweight champ Jon Jones' title.

He told MMA Fighting that he's hoping to face Nelson at UFC 166 in Houston on October 19:

"Roy and I still have some unfinished business," Cormier said. "I hope he re-signs with the UFC, so we can settle what he started two months ago.

"I want to find a way to give him a pass for his performance against Stipe [Miocic at UFC 161] since he took that fight on such short notice. In my eyes, that loss didn't do much to diminish his place in the UFC heavyweight division."

The "unfinished business" Cormier mentioned is Nelson's reference to him "pulling an Uncle Tom move" when Cormier told Ariel Helwani that he wanted to "kick Roy Nelson's ass for Dana White."

At one point Nelson's manager felt his fighter had nothing to gain from a fight against Cormier, but his loss to Miocic has to change that calculus.
