Oh well, UFC 161 has taken on water with Mauricio Rua now completely off the June 15th PPV. Chael Sonnen was reportedly set to face Shogun in place of the injured Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, but according to Tatame magazine's Guilherme Cruz, Visa issues will prevent Chael from fighting in Canada:
Chael Sonnen not fighting Shogun Rua at UFC 161 due to visa issues, I'm told— Guilherme Cruz (@guicruzzz) June 4, 2013
If you recall, Sonnen pleaded guilty to money laundering in an Oregon mortgage fraud case back in 2011. He's now a convicted felon, which is the probable cause for his Visa problems.
Since Lil' Nog is not going to be fighting any time soon, the UFC is apparently looking to book this fight for UFC on Fox Sports 1 in Boston.
Update: Shogun-Sonnen will probably be moved to UFC on FoxSports 1 #1 card, on August 17— Guilherme Cruz (@guicruzzz) June 4, 2013
Just when it looked like Sonnen was set for a studio role on the FS1 show, he might be fighting on that show after all.
UPDATE at 11:06 PM ET: The UFC has confirmed Shogun will not fight at UFC 161 and that the event will proceed with 11 fights.
