Dana White has been talking out loud and/or whispering behind the scenes about his plans for a UFC event in Cowboys stadium since at least 2009. Back then it was going to be headlined by Brock Lesnar vs. Fedor Emelianenko. These days he's got his sights set on a superfight between Middleweight champ Anderson Silva and Light Heavyweight champ Jon Jones plus the Heavyweight title rubber match between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.
Now according to a report from The Las Vegas Review Journal, it looks like Jerry Jones might have some competition should Dana ever actually put together a card big enough to book a stadium....or a motor speedway:
(Las Vegas Motor) Speedway President Chris Powell said he approached UFC President Dana White and UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta about that possibility Friday at the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame at Orleans Arena.
"I like it," (Dana White) said. "It would be cool as hell, and we have a few fights coming up that could pull it off."
White's main concern with an outdoor event is rain: "We could work with wind. September would be great."
Powell said his initial vision would be to erect a temporary bowl in the infield to offer a more intimate view in the 132,000-seat venue.
has yet to pull off a stadium show although their UFC 129 Toronto debut drew 55,000+ fans to the Rogers Centre (Sky Dome) although the roof was closed. Their sole outdoor event was UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi which drew 11,000 fans.
