UFC Welterweight Johny Hendricks is next in line for a title shot at champ Georges St. Pierre, hopefully in the fall. The fight still isn't signed, but based on recent comments from GSP, Hendricks believes he'll get his shot this year.
He spoke to MMA Weekly about the fight itself:
"I'm gonna have to beat him twice. Unless I knock him out. If I manhandle him for two round and I knock him out, then there won't be a rematch," Hendricks explained. "But if it's a close fight or I go out and knock him out in the first minute, yeah, there'll be a rematch.
"I'm so excited to finally get to the Octagon and look across and there's Georges. That's all I can think about. That's all I dream about every day. Words can't explain how excited I am."
Hendricks (15-1, 10-1 UFC) is riding a 6 fight win streak with 3 of those wins by KO/TKO and the notches on his belt include big names like Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch, Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann. St. Pierre (24-2, 18-2 UFC) has defended his belt successfully 8 times since reclaiming it from Matt Serra in 2008. However he hasn't finished an opponent since B.J. Penn in 2009 and has come under fire for his conservative approach.
What do you think? Is Hendricks, a former two-time NCAA wrestling champion right that he's got the chops to stuff GSP's take downs? Is his big left hand enough to beat GSP on the feet?
