UFC middleweight and light heavyweight champions Anderson Silva and Jon Jones have once again been nominated for an ESPN ESPY award. Featured in the 2013 'Best Fighter' category, the pair of champions face stiff competition in the forms of Canelo Alvarez, Danny Garcia and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Altered slightly from 'Best Boxer' in 2007, the new award was created to better accomodate other combat sports, MMA chiefly among them. Although both Silva and Jones have now thrice been nominated, they've as of yet been relegated to bridesmaid status and forced to watch 'Money' Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao trot down the isle year after year. Could the fourth time be the charm for one of them?
Founded in 1993, the ESPY's honor the previous year's most outstanding sporting moments, athletes and teams. Fans can vote online via the ESPY's official site right up until showtime on Jul. 17, so no hurry. Mad Men's very own Jon Hamm will preside, hopefully in character as Don Draper.
