Ryan Bader confirms he will fight Glover Teixeira in UFC on Fox Sports 1 #3 main event

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

UFC light heavyweight and TUF 8 winner Ryan Bader confirmed today that he will be getting the main event spot against Glover Teixeira this September.

Yesterday it was reported that the September 4th UFC on Fox Sports 1 event in Brazil would feature a middleweight fight between Ronaldo Souza and Yushin Okami, as well as a light heavyweight scrap between Glover Teixeira and Ryan Bader. Today it was confirmed by Bader on Twitter that not only will he be fighting Glover, but it will also be the night's main event.

Bader (15-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) is recovering from a knee injury that prevented him from fighting Teixeira at UFC 160. The TUF 8 champion easily sent Vladimir Matyushenko out of the UFC with a 1st round guillotine choke inside of a minute. This is indeed a "tough test but big reward"as Bader said, because his road to a title shot has effectively stagnated in the past 2 years. His loss to Tito Ortiz severely damaged his title hopes, and just as he was picking up steam with wins over Jason Brilz and Quinton Jackson, Lyoto Machida knocked him out at UFC on Fox 4. This will be the first UFC main event (and five round fight) for both Bader and Teixeira.

UFC on Fox Sports 1 #3 airs live on ... well ... Fox Sports 1, at 8 PM ET from Belo Horizonte and leads into season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter.
