Throughout the fight, Broner landed the harder shots, rocking Malignaggi, but never seeming to really hurt him. For Malignaggi, the fight was all about volume, as he considerably outlanded Broner throughout, but didn't land a single truly heavy shot all night.
The end result was a close, split decision win for Broner. That controversial decision, plus the heated pre-fight talk, led to an ugly post-fight situation that nearly resulted in a brawl and saw Malignaggi furiously arguing that the decision was a robbery. It was an ugly end to an overall odd fight.
