The UFC has a busy summer ahead of them, including a span of 3 shows in less than 2 weeks. Globo reports that flyweights Joseph Benavidez and Jussier Formiga will face off at a UFC on Fox Sports 1 event in Brazil on September 4th.
Benavidez (18-3) lost to Demetrious Johnson by split decision at UFC 152, but has since pulled off impressive victories over Ian McCall and Darren Uyenoyama. The Team Alpha Male product stopped Uyenoyama with strikes in their UFC on Fox 7 encounter and showed off impressive striking and a punishing body attack.
Formiga (15-2) was regarded as one of the top 3 flyweights in the world when he joined the UFC late last year, but he didn't look the part when he was knocked out by John Dodson in Minneapolis last October. The BJJ black belt rebounded in May with a decision win over Chris Cariaso to get his first win in the octagon.
No location or venue has been confirmed for this card, although a return to Belo Horizonte has been rumored. The UFC already has Fox Sports 1 shows booked for August 17th and the 28th, as well as an August 31st PPV in Milwaukee. This particular September 4th show will be a two-hour main card leading into the season premiere of TUF 18.
