I consider myself a huge fan of mma I have been a loyal enthusiast of the sport since 2005 which is when I saw my first Pride event after purchasing a dvd at a Specs music store in Miami,fl.
The event was Pride Final Conflict 2005,and there were four fighters fighting for Pride"s middleweight title in a tournament format. I had watched UFC events before and I enjoyed them but little did I know that after watching this particular dvd that my life would change in many ways.
Am I being melodramatic? Yes it's quite possible, but seriously I totally fell in love with what I saw! There was this Fedor guy eating head kicks thrown by some Croatian dude and he just kept coming forward and landing his own shots the fight was epic. This kid named "Shogun" though made the biggest impression on me after he tore through both of his opponents that night to win the middleweight tournament. There were soccer kicks, choke outs,Ax Murderers, and even a Tank Abbott appearance ! I was hooked,
The violence I was watching was artistic not barbaric. These men were not trying to kill each other , this was a competition to see who was the best ,after the fights most guys even shook hands and bowed in respect. Ever since then, I find myself going out of my way to absorb as much of this great sport as possible.. Whether It was staying up till the early morning hours to watch a live Pride event in Japan or spending the little money I had to order a UFC ppv show or even taking up BJJ lessons at a local gym in. Am I crazy , most people would say so but I am sure some of you reading this Fanpost have done some of the same things.
MMA fans are a special breed altogether, we have a passion for the sport unlike any other fans that I know. We don't like posers, or take too kindly to people bashing this "thing of ours". We study fights and fighters and argue amongst each other about almost everything having to do with the sport , we even take time to write silly articles like this one.We all like to think that we are experts and that no one can rival our individual knowledge of the sport. I believe that there is something special that comes from two people competing in hand to hand combat for supremacy. It is the truest form of competition period and there is nothing more exciting to me .
My significant other does not understand why I spend so much time on this website reading articles and posting comments, she thinks its silly and a waste of time but who cares! I still love waking up to a cup of joe and some Bloody Elbow everyday to help my day start off right.
