At a press conference today, the promotion for the upcoming Timothy Bradley vs. Juan Manuel Marquez boxing match officially kicked off. Bradley and Marquez will meet on October 12 in Las Vegas in an HBO PPV fight.
Both Bradley and Marquez are at particularly high profile moments in their careers. Last year, the undefeated Bradley took a highly controversial decision over Manny Pacquiao in a fight that the vast majority of observers felt Bradley should have lost. He took some time off, returning early this year in an incredible Fight of the Year caliber win over Ruslan Provodnikov. Though both fights raised questions about Bradley, they also undeniably helped his stock rise.
For his part, Marquez comes in off the greatest win of his career - a stunning KO of his career-defining rival Pacquiao last December. That was a huge win and the crowning moment in the excellent career of Marquez.
The big question here will be just how well these two men draw on PPV. For a number of years now, the boxing PPV landscape has been dominated by two names - Pacquiao and Mayweather. With both of these fighters having received a promotional bump courtesy of Pacquiao, can they create a significant PPV draw on their own? We'll have to wait until October to see.
Setting aside business questions, this is simply an exciting fight between two skilled technical fighters who also know how to throw down when needed. I'm looking forward to this one - another big fight in a huge year for boxing.
