Hector Lombard officially moving to welterweight, wants to fight Nate Marquardt

Matt Roberts

Former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard has a had a rough go at 185 so far in the UFC, so he's going to drop to 170. And he'd like to fight Nate Marquardt first.

Hector Lombard (32-4-1, 1 NC) came into the UFC from Bellator with a huge contract and huge expectations. But after going just 1-2 in his first three UFC middleweight fights, it appears that he has finally decided to drop to welterweight. He had been flirting with the move for several months, talking about making test cuts and asking fans what they think of the move though twitter. But according to UFC Tonight, it's now official. Host Ariel Helwani shared the news via twitter:

He apparently has a target in mind for his debut as well - former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nate Marquardt. And Nate's cool with the fight:

Lombard is coming off a split-decision loss to Yushin Okami at UFC on Fuel 8, while Marqardt (32-12-2) was stopped by Jake Ellenberger in his UFC re-debut at UFC 158 in March.

Geez, Joe Silva's job is getting easier and easier. Between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Stefan Struve basically booking a fight, and now this, it seems that all he has to do is send out bout agreements. I like this fight though, so hopefully it does indeed become a reality.
