Cain Velasquez opens as favorite over Junior dos Santos for October bout

USA TODAY Sports

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is the early betting favorite for his third bout with former champ Junior dos Santos in October.

Round three between UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos will go down in October in Houston, as most know by now. The event will probably be UFC 166, and the current champ has opened as the betting favorite over the former champ. Here's the line (via BestFightOdds):

BestFightOdds.com

Only one site (BetOnline) is offering a line on the fight at the moment. Velasquez (12-1) defeated Dos Santos (16-2) by dominant decision in their second fight at UFC 155 in December. Dos Santos knocked Velasquez out in 64 seconds in their first meeting at UFC on Fox 1 in late 2011. The two men both picked up victories in their last fights at UFC 160, where Cain beat Antonio Silva by first-round TKO and Cigano knocked out Mark Hunt in the third round of their fight.

I actually think Dos Santos is a great bet right now. I believe the line is going to get a lot closer as fight time approaches, and +175 is the best price you're going to get on JDS. It's obviously a close fight and if both come in to it in top shape, it's a tossup in my eyes. So getting either of them at +175 is a great deal. I'm putting a bit of money down on Junior now.
