UFC 161 results recap: Stipe Miocic vs. Roy Nelson

USA TODAY Sports

Take a look back at the UFC 161heavyweight bout between Stripe Miocic and Roy Nelson.

In the co-main event bout of UFC 161, heavyweights Stipe Miocic (10-1, 4-1 UFC) and Roy Nelson (19-8, 6-4 UFC) threw down for 15 minutes. But surprisingly, it was Miocic that totally dominated the fight. Miocic used quickness, angles, and a smart gameplan to pick apart a plodding Big Country and took a unanimous decision. All three judges had it 30-27 for Stipe.

Nelson gassed pretty quickly in the fight and while he didn't make any excuses afterwards, it was clear that he wasn't in top shape. He has reached the end of his initial 10-fight contract and now faces an uncertain future.

What was the high point of the fight?

There wasn't one outstanding moment, but Miocic caught Nelson with huge shots throughout the fight.

Where do they go from here?

Miocic moves into the bottom of the top 10 at heavyweight (I slotted him in at 10) and will get another high-profile fight next. I'd like to see him face Antonio Silva, who is coming off a title shot loss to Cain Velasquez.

Nelson's future is totally up in the air. He's a free agent, and while Dana White talked of keeping him around, the two men don't like each other and it's possible that Nelson might bolt to a competitor. If he does stay, a bout with Mark Hunt seems like a natural fit.

Watch now, later, or never?

Later. The fight wasn't boring and Miocic really did beat the crap out of Nelson, but you're not missing out on much if you give it a pass for now.
