During a pre-UFC 161 media scrum, UFC president Dana White had some big news. First he stated that Jon Jones will be defending his UFC light heavyweight title against Alexander Gustafsson in the main event of UFC 165 in Toronto. Then he stated that the heavyweight title will be up for grabs in October in Houston. Joe Ferraro tweeted what White had to say:
Dana stated Cowboy stadium is not in the plans for October. Cain vs Jds in October in Houston arena.— Joe Ferraro (@ShowdownJoe) June 13, 2013
It was clarified that the fight would probably be taking place in an arena. Velasquez (12-1) and Dos Santos (16-2) have traded the title back and forth in their previous two meetings. JDS earned another shot by defeating Mark Hunt in the co-main event of UFC 160, while Velasquez successfully defended by stopping Antonio Silva in the main event of the same card.
No date or venue for the bout is set as of right now, though I'd assume we'll hear something soon.
