UFC president Dana White landed in Winnipeg today for the UFC 161 media day. He responded to some questions and comments on Twitter, including whether or not Jon Jones will be fighting Alexander Gustafsson for the light-heavyweight title. His reply was a simple "yup":
Just landed in Winnipeg for Evans vs Hendo!! Press conf 2 morrow at 2pm at The Met— Dana White (@danawhite) June 13, 2013
@danawhite drop the bomb allready! Bones vs. The Mauler this fall! Right?— puban (@pubisboy) June 13, 2013
@pubisboy yup— Dana White (@danawhite) June 13, 2013
Jones himself recently tweeted that a fight announcement is coming soon, but never explicitly said it would be against Gustafsson. "Bones" defended his title successfully for a 4th consecutive time after he shocked the entire world by TKOing Chael Sonnen at UFC 159. Gustafsson was supposed to fight Gegard Mousasi in April, but a last minute facial cut forced him out of the main event and he was replaced by Ilir Latifi. The Swede's last win came in December over Mauricio Rua.
Bloody Elbow will update the article if Dana White formally announces Jones' next fight at the media session, which is closed to the public.
