UFC on Fuel 10 results recap: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Fabricio Werdum

Take a look back at the UFC on Fuel 10 main event, pitting Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira against Fabricio Werdum in a heavyweight showdown.

In the main event of UFC on Fuel 10, Fabricio Werdum staked his claim on a UFC heavyweight title shot with a big win over opposing TUF Brazil 2 coach Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. In a rematch of their 2006, Werdum got a win back by submitting the legend in the second round with an armbar. Nogueira never actually tapped, but he did verbally submit. He was taken to the hospital afterwards but there was no damage to his arm.

Both men came out hard in the first and landed a few shots, but Werdum got an early takedown and was in mount briefly. He seemed to gas out a bit near the end of the round and was looking at the clock, but came out strong in the second with kicks. After some back and forth, Werdum got Nog down again, took his back, and clamped on a belly-down armbar for the win at the 2:41 mark of round 2.

What was the high point of the fight?

The finish. The armbar was very slick and the momentary confusion about Nog not tapping added to how surreal it was.

Where do they go from here?

Werdum will probably be left with two choices - either sit out for a while and get the winner of Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos 3, or fight someone in the meantime. Personally, I'd really like him to fight the winner of the Frank Mir vs. Josh Barnett fight.

Nogueira is probably not going to retire, but he's certainly out of the title picture now. They could go in any number of directions with him, but he'll undoubtedly getting main card fights for as long as he wants to continue stepping into the octagon. Oddly, I'd like to see him face Stefan Struve next.

Watch now, later, or never?

Now. It wasn't the best fight of all time, but it was quite good for a heavyweight bout.
