UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has made it clear that he'd like to defend his title against Alexander Gustafsson next, and that might be exactly what happens. Gustafsson and Jones have been trading barbs on twitter and engaged in a faceoff at a recent event in Moscow, presumably to add some more fire to the potential bout. There has been recent talk of Jones maybe fighting Anderson Silva in a Cowboys Stadium superfight, but Gustafsson believes that it will be him that gets the call to fight Jones next. He explained the situation to MMA Fighting:
"He wants to fight me, and I want to fight him. [The UFC hasn't] offered me the fight yet. I'm just really hoping to get some answers soon.
I'm really hoping for it, and I think I will get the fight. I think I will be offered a title fight very soon. Nothing is set or signed, though."
"I'm not going to be quiet anymore. I really want this fight. I really want to fight Jones. It's on. It's on. I will do anything I can to make it happen.
I hope I can fight him as soon as possible. I'm in full training waiting for some news."
While Lyoto Machida might not agree, the best LHW title fight out there right now is Jones/Gustafsson, as it offers something new (and doesn't involve Jones defending against a middleweight). One of the things standing in the way is Jones' issues with his toe injury from UFC 159, which he recently tweeted about. He said he has to make some decisions soon, and Gustafsson might be central to those.
