Leo Santa Cruz def. Alexander Munoz by TKO round 5 1:05
Leo Santa Cruz and Alexander Munoz came out swinging and just never stopped. The two men showed what is great about the smaller weight classes, with blistering speed and non-stop action. That fast pace is a Santa Cruz trademark. And while Munoz was able to keep up at first, he quickly fell behind. Santa Cruz simply overwhelmed him, throwing close to 100 punches every round. In particular, his body work was nasty.
After two rounds, Munoz was essentially done. He went down in the 3rd, nearly was dropped again in round 4, and when he was dropped again in round 5 his corner mercifully stepped in to stop it.
Munoz deserves plenty of credit for giving it his all, but at age 34, and only fighting sporadically lately, he just couldn't keep up with this incredible pace. And to be honest, I'm not sure who can. Great win for Santa Cruz in the kind of action-packed exciting fight that makes people want to see him again.
Post-fight, the main talk was focused on Leo Santa Cruz vs. Jonathan Romero, so we'll see if that happens.
