Wladimir Klitschko def. Francesco Pianeta TKO round 6 2:52
Before Floyd Mayweather takes the ring tonight, another of boxing's dominant champions was in action. Wladimir Klitschko faced the challenge of Francesco Pianeta on a card in Germany. Klitschko was, of course, the massive favorite, and it only took him six rounds to put Pianeta down and out.
To Pianeta's credit, he definitely gave it his all, particularly in the early going where he refused to fall into the trap of being intimidated by the dominance of Klitschko. But for Pianeta, spirit could only carry him so far. Pianeta first tasted the canvas in round four, but was able to survive that round, only to be stopped late in the 6th. This is the first loss of his career, dropping his record to 28-1-1. Klitschko scored his 60th professional win here, with an amazing 51 of those wins coming via KO.
