The first Canadian champion in the UFC was actually Carlos Newton, but many more greats have emerged since Newton's rise to the highest peak of welterweight early last decade. Here's the top three Canadians right now:
1. Georges St-Pierre
GSP has been able to win the UFC title on two separate occasions and defend it a mind boggling eight times. a very hard task with the line up killers that are at 170. Pierre's the greatest welterweight in the history of the game.
2. Rory MacDonald
If GSP is the Great One then Rory MacDonald is the next one. If by chance GSP is dethroned at any time in the future, MacDonald will be looking to get a chance to win UFC gold at 170. His skill-set is very well-rounded, he has the killer instinct, total focus, and is poised to become another great champion out of Canada one day.
3. TJ Grant
TJ Grant just sort of emerged out of nowhere at 155 and has taken the division by storm. The Halifax fighter has picked up five wins at 155 and knocked out Matt Wiman and Gray Maynard, both in the first round. He has blasted jaws of his opponents and dropped thousands of fans' in the process as they watched him rip apart lightweight after lightweight. Grant is one win away from making the UFC have a second title holder from Canada.
