Yes, this is really happening. UFC welterweight Nick Diaz has decided to get into the promotion game, and word of his new MMA promotion came out a few weeks ago. Many thought that this venture wouldn't see the light of day, but apparently it will. MMA Junkie reports that the California State Athletic Commission has granted Nick a promoter's license (as long as he shows up or calls in to their June 10th meeting), and the first show will take place on June 22nd in the 10,000 seat Stockton arena.
The main event will feature Cesar Gracie fighter and former UFC combatant Daniel Roberts (14-4) taking on Justin Baesman (12-4). The co-main will also feature another former Zuffa fighter, as UFC/WEC vet Antonio Banuelos (20-9-1) meets Benny Vinson (4-1).
The promotion will use a modified ring instead of a cage to avoid stalling on the ground, and won't allow elbow strikes on the ground. Here's a look at the current card:
