How long can Cain vs Junior be sustained?

Since Saturday, I've been contemplating the idea of Cain vs JDS 3, and I'm still not fond of the idea. On the one hand, we have people complaining about fighters like Sonnen getting a title shot at LHW, despite coming off of a loss, and on the other, we Cain and Junior, again being rematched with only one fight separating them from their last. I understand that the situations are different, considering that Junior and Cain are undeniably that top 1 and 2 in the division. However, something about contenders getting title shots off of 1 fight win streaks seems to weaken the concept of a title shot as a whole. It's not like there aren't other options available at the moment. If Werdum comes out of his next fight with a win, I can see him as a suitable challenger to the title. In the meantime, Junior could easily be matched up against Roy Nelson or Daniel Cormier.

There is a question of why Cain and Junior shouldn't be matched up again so suddenly. In my mind, it comes down to one major issue: sustainability. Let's say that the night of the fight comes, and once again, Cain dominantly defeats dos Santos. Maybe it's not as bad as their second meeting, but it's still a clear victory for Cain. What does that make of the division? At best, we have 2 credible challengers left, Werdum and Cormier. Cormier says he wont fight Cain, so that brings us down to one. What happens if Cain takes out Werdum? Do we put Werdum in a contenders match and then let him take another crack at Cain after riding a one fight win streak? There will be virtually no other credible challenger at HW, save Jon Jones, maybe making the move up. There is no guarantee that will happen, or that he will even succeed.

For a moment, let's picture another situation. What happens if Junior wins the rematch? We know Junior can end a fight at any time. So, lets say Junior sleeps Cain in rd 1(he almost did it to Hunt). Do they each just take one more fight before getting back into the cage together? Do they just keep trading the title? How long can this go on? At what point do we lose interest?

That brings me to another point. There's almost no build up. Velasquez vs Dos Santos 3 has the potential to be one of the greatest trilogies in MMA history. However, the pacing of this fight really makes it difficult for it to feel epic. I'll be honest, I don't know if spacing the fights out will make their next meeting feel anymore important. Them beating 2 over matched opponents in row, instead of one might just make HW feel like even more of a wasteland. But the alternative just seems so rushed to me. The UFC shouldn't be doing it's damnedest to burn out the two best HW's in the division with these rematches. It's a treadmill to nowhere.
