Now that Fox has decided to create a couple of dedicated sports channels, UFC programming will be moving from Fuel and FX to Fox Sports 1 in August. The first official UFC show on the new network will take place on August 17th in Boston, and has a silly dual-numbered title as of right now. The card doesn't have a main event as of yet, but Dana White said last week that he had a few options. One much-discussed option was Wanderlei Silva vs. Chael Sonnen, but talk has died down on that. The newest rumor is that Ben Henderson will defend his UFC lightweight title against T.J. Grant. White said we'll find out soon either way.
What is known so far is that the likely co-main event fight will take place in the heavyweight division with former Strikeforce and K-1 champ Alistair Overeem taking on Travis Browne. Also added to the card is Thiago Alves, who will be making his return from a year off when he meets the streaking Matt Brown in a welterweight fight. The only other confirmed fight sees Boston native Joe Lauzon meeting Michael Johnson. Irish fighter Conor McGregor will compete on the card too, against a fighter to be named later.
Here's a look at the very early card:
