With the UFC returning to Milwaukee, Wisconsin it only makes sense to have at least one Roufusport fighter on the card, and now we have one lined up for UFC 164. Featherweight Erik Koch will fight Dustin Poirier on August 31st, a bout confirmed to MMA Weekly earlier tonight.
Koch (13-2) was in line for a title shot on two occasions vs. Jose Aldo last year, but injuries to both men on separate occasions put Koch out of the title shot and fighting the other 145 lbs contenders. Against Ricardo Lamas at UFC on Fox 6, Koch was stopped for the first time in his career as Lamas pummeled him with elbows from the top position.
Poirier (13-3) has lost 2 of his last 3 to Chan Sung Jung and Cub Swanson, with a submission over Jonathan Brookins sandwiched in there. He was actually scheduled to fight Koch at UFC 143 but when Koch suffered an injury -- he injured his way into a title shot -- he ended up fighting Max Holloway instead.
