Bloody Elbow readers in the Chicago area - here's info on an interesting class coming up that I thought might be of interest to you. If you have ever wanted to get into writing about MMA (or any sport), this is a class being offered next Tuesday, May 28 at a great writing studio called StoryStudio Chicago. Do you split your time between writing and sports? Are you a writer looking to pursue a different style? Or just a passionate sports fan looking to get more involved with the activities you love? If so, this is the class for you!
This one night class will examine how to make it as a sportwriter in today's world. We'll look at how to write the nuts and bolts "Just the facts, ma'am" pieces that make up sports journalism, along with the longer form editorial coverage that brings sports writing to life. We'll also discuss the business of sports writing and how you can turn your hobby into a career.
Topics discussed will include:
-Creating simple, direct news pieces
-Writing editorial pieces that grab the reader's attention
-Getting started in sports writing
-Turning your writing into a career
-By the end of this class, students will have one completed piece, plus the beginnings of a longer form editorial piece.
