UFC fighter rankings: Jacare, Lentz, Lineker moving on up

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Nik Lentz, John Lineker, and Jacare Souza moved up in the official UFC rankings due to their UFC on FX 8 wins, while Luke Rockhold tumbled.

Despite a lack of relevant fights at last weekend's UFC on FX 8 event in Brazil, there were a few changes in the official UFC rankings. It shouldn't be very surprising the the biggest flux came in the middleweight division, especially since three of the four main card fights came at 185 pounds. But there were also minor changes at featherweight and flyweight (related to FX 8 results), while heavyweight and lightweight experienced minor, unrelated changes.

You can check out the full rankings here, and use the dropdown menu to see the individual picks of the five BE contributors (myself, T.P. Grant, Chris Hall, Fraser Coffeen, and Stephie Daniels).

The two biggest movers were ex-Strikeforce fighters. Ronaldo Souza used his win over Chris Camozzi to move up two spots in the 185-pound rankings from eight to six. Meanwhile, Luke Rockhold's loss to Vitor Belfort in the main event saw him tumble from the five spot down to seven. This caused Constantinos Philippou to move up one to five, while Mark Munoz dropped one spot to eighth. I find it a bit odd that Jacare could be ahead of Rockhold considering that Rockhold has beaten Souza, but apparently a majority of other rankers disagree.

The other two men to benefit from UFC on FX 8 wins were Nik Lentz and John Lineker. Lentz moved up one spot from 10 to 9 in the featherweight rankings, passing Erik Koch. And Lineker moved from eight to seven at flyweight, passing Chris Cariaso.

The only other minor changes saw T.J. Grant move past Donald Cerrone for the number five contender's spot at lightweight, while Roy Nelson fell from a tie for fifth at heavyweight with Alistair Overeem down to the six position.
