This past weekend, Pacific X-treme Combat hosted their 9th event in the Philippines, and their 37th major MMA event overall. It was headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Team Lakay's Crisanto Pitpitunge, and top Japanese prospect Michinori Tanaka.
The Wushu-based fighter had his moments in the fight, where he landed a few hard shots and even came really close to finishing a rear naked choke in the opening round. For the most part though, it was Tanaka's world class grappling skills that was on display once again, as he was able to take the Filipino down several times, get good transitions, and land hard blows from the top. In the end, Tanaka won a clear cut decision over 5 rounds. He then credits improvements in his overall MMA game from spending a few weeks training at Urijah Faber's Team Alpha Male gym.
The Groundslam Reversal Gym product cemented his status as one of the brightest young stars from Japan, and with the victory, the 22-year-old was able to claim the PXC Bantamweight Title and extend his unbeaten streak to 8 bouts.
