The main card of UFC On FX 8 got started with a Middleweight bout between Rafael Natal and Joao Zeferino. It was far from the best fight on the card, but Natal used his experience advantage to secure the UD over UFC newcomer Zeferino.
Zeferino got the action started landing a big overhand right from range. They clinched up and Natal looked for a takedown only to be reversed by Zeferino. They scrambled and it was Joao who grabbed a leg to threaten the submission. Natal stayed calm and and defended will in the 50-50 guard. Neither fight really gained an advantage here. Referee Leon Roberts separated the fighters very late in the round.
Zeferino really lunging into his punches head first early in round two. They landed, but Sapo looked unfazed. They spent most of the rest of the round striking from distance with neither man langing any big shots. Natal scored a late takedown and finished the round in top position.
Bro-hug started the final round. Slow start to the round, but Natal scored a takedown halfway through the fight. Sapo worked for an arm triangle that allowed him to pass to side control and then mount. Zeferino managed to survive to the final bell, but just barely.
Rafael Natal scored the Unanimous Decision (29-28 x 2, 30-27) over Joao Zeferino
Natal came into the fight off a 3rd round submission win in his last appearance and a 3-2-1 UFC record. Zeferino was making his UFC debut and took the fight on only 2 weeks' notice.
