This weekend, kickboxing fans have an exciting card to look forward to. Superkombat, one of the top international kickboxing organizations, returns for their 2nd major event of 2013. Superkombat World Grand Prix in Craiova takes place live in Romania this Saturday May 18.
The show will be available as a live stream for only $5 for US customers through Superkombat.com. The stream begins at 3:00 p.m. ET Saturday afternoon. Join Bloody Elbow on Saturday for live fight coverage.
Superkombat is one of the kickboxing organizations that still holds strong to the classic Grand Prix format. Saturday's event is one of the qualifiers for this year's GP final to be held in November/December, and the highlight of Saturday's show is the 4 man qualifying tournament. Featured bouts in that tournament are Nikolaj Falin vs. Frank Munoz, and Sebastian Ciobanu vs. Vladimir Toktasynov. Winner here moves on to the round of 8, joining Muamer Tufekcic, who claimed his spot with a surprise win in April.
Ciobanu vs. Munoz is the easy pick for the finals here. In that match-up, the hard hitting and tough to finish Ciobanu is the likely favorite, though Munoz is a good fighter with a solid Muay Thai background and experience at the famed Chakuriki Gym. I'll go with a Ciobanu win here, though won't be at all surprised to see Munoz pull it off.
Also featured Saturday are the highly popular Catalin Morosanu and Benjamin Adegbuyi among others. Get the full fight card below.
$5 kickboxing from one of the world's leaders in consistently providing high-quality, entertaining fights? Sounds like a fine way to spend a Saturday afternoon to me. Hope to see you here at Bloody Elbow for the Superkombat Grand Prix in Craiova.
