In what will probably be the final addition to the card Yaotzin Meza is facing off against John Albert at UFC on Fox 8. It's not the most scintillating of matchups, but carries with it the promise that both of these fighters will probably get cut with a loss. It's hard to say what effect that has on a fighters mentality going in, it may make the fight more exciting, or it may lead to a safe, points style with both fighters just looking to get the win.
For Meza this is his second UFC outing and his bantamweight debut after a short notice, and ill fated, fight against Chad Mendes at UFC on FX 6: Sotiropoulos vs. Pearson. He's been somewhat of a regional circuit fixture, primarily for Rage in the Cage, and at 32 I have to think that the UFC sees him as entirely expendable if he loses this fight.
John Albert came into the UFC on the back of the Ultimate Fighter 14, the last of the Spike based versions of the reality show. He was a member of Michael Bisping's team, losing to John Dodson in the semi-final round of the tournament. After a UFC debut win over Dustin Pauge at the TUF 14 Finale, he's been on a three fight skid, and honestly I'm a little surprised he's still with the company. He suffered a bad submission loss to Scott Jorgensen in his last fight out and I think this has to be his last chance.
UFC on Fox 8: Johnson vs. Moraga takes place in Key Arena, Seattle, Washington on July 27. Here's the complete card:
