UFC on Fuel 9 results: Ross Pearson knocks out Ryan Couture

Martin McNeil

Ross Pearson picked up a second round knockout victory over Ryan Couture in their UFC on Fuel 9 lightweight bout.

It took Ross Pearson a little while to get going, but he got going in a big way in the second round. Opponent Ryan Couture did well over the first half of the fight, using clinch work and solid movement on the feet to frustrate Pearson a bit. But Pearson finally found his timing and range and leveled Couture with some big shots to end the fight. The finish came at 3:45 of the second round.

Couture looked for a takedown early and they engaged in a lengthy clinch battle against the cage. That ate up nearly half the round before Couture finally got a brief takedown. Pearson got up right away and they finally separated. Couture circled away continually, throwing the odd kick or jab while Pearson stalked him. Pearson finally connected with a knee and a hook late.

Pearson appeared to have Couture's timing down a little better early in round two and connected a few times, but Couture clinched up again. Couture connected with a nice combination on the break. Pearson slipped a punch and landed a combo to the body and head. Pearson then caught a kick and beat up Couture a bit on the ground. Couture got up, but ate two monster shots and a looping left on the button that sent him crashing to the canvas. The referee then jumped in and waved it off.

Pearson said after the fight that he might have broke his foot while warming up for the bout.
