UFC on FX 8: Belfort vs. Rockhold may be more than a month away, but a replacement for the injured Marcos Vinicius has already been named. Vinicius was set to fight Yuri Alcantara in a bantamweight bout, before injuring his knee last week. And while other currently signed fighters may have been available, the UFC has taken the opportunity to bring in some new talent.
Initially reported by Tatame, Iliarde Santos will make his UFC debut sporting a 27-6 record, with 1 no-contest. He's riding a 6 fight win streak, and while his victories are short on name power, most of his losses are close contests against top competition. He's 32, so most likely he's a finished product at this stage of his career. But it's worth noting that he started his career only 7 years ago, so he should still have a lot of wear left in him.
Santos is somewhat of a skilled generalist often winning fights through a combination of heavy strikes and power takedowns. That may or may not translate well at the highest level, as such skills often provide the strongest base, but are incredibly common among UFC vets. Yuri Alcantara is a very tough test for a first fight in the UFC, and while he may not be favored to win, it will be interesting to see how well he performs. In the meantime here are a couple of highlight videos to get us all acquainted.
