Add one more ex-UFC fighter onto the World Series of Fighting roster. Today former UFC lightweight and featherweight Tyson Griffin announced on Twitter that he has signed with the promotion, and aims for an August debut:
I hope to be on the august WSOF card & can't wait to put on the most exciting fight the @wsoffans have ever seen!!— Tyson Griffin (@TysonGriffin) April 30, 2013
Griffin (16-6) was a staple in the UFC, known for his exciting fights with Frankie Edgar, Sean Sherk, and Clay Guida. Last year he was released from the UFC following a 1-4 record in his final 5 fights, including a KO loss to Bart Palaszewski at UFC 137. It should be noted that while it was due to be his 2nd featherweight fight, he missed weight by 3 lbs. While not found out until last year, Griffin also failed his drug test at UFC 123, where he lost to Nik Lentz via controversial decision. In his first fight outside of the UFC since 2006, Griffin returned to lightweight and defeated TUF 8 winner Efrain Escudero in the main event of RFA 4 in Las Vegas.
