What's up, bitches!?
I'm on a tight schedule so I'll try to keep this short and sweet. The Bloody Elbow Civil War is your chance to prove to your fellow
BElitists Bloody Elboners that you are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to prognosticating fisticuffs. It'll make you care about fighters like Dan Stittgen, Besam Yousef and Andy Ogle. And most of all, it's a way to talk a bunch of trash and shout LETS MUTHERFUKERS. It's your ticket to MMA paradise.
What the BECW is
We pick all live UFC fights, from TUF Finales to PPVs, from the curtain-jerkers on Myspacey all the way to the main event. The fight-picking takes place on a website called MMA Playground. Players are split into 12 teams, teams are split into 3 divisions. Each season lasts 10 events with the first 7 being our regular season and the last 3 being the playoffs, where the 8 best teams face off for a chance to win the coveted BECW Grand Prix title, while the worst teams try not to "win" the BECW Bland Prix. Teams face off each week in head-to-head fashion, with the team scoring more points notching a win.
You score points by picking the correct winner as well as picking the correct method of victory and round. Picking a winner earns you 5 points. Picking the correct method or round gets you an additional 2. Get all three right and you get a total of 11 points. The closest bout of an event earns Hot Bout status meaning any points you get will be doubled, and if you correctly pick a fighter who got less than 20% of the vote, you get a 2 point underdog bonus.
Each season starts off with a glorious draft where captains pick their teams. At least one person will make a fool of themselves and a handful of memes will be born.
Oh, and did I mention that we have a ton of stats as well as mutherfuking live scoring?
How do I get in?
It's easy. Go to MMA Playground and sign up if you don't already have a profile. Once that is done, please fill in this signup form. When that's done, make your picks for the final three events of this season and keep your eyes peeled for a fanpost some time between April 14 and April 18 where you'll be asked to confirm your registration. Follow those simple steps and you're in.
Info for returning players
You will have to sign up some time between the semi-finals and the finals, ie. between April 14 and April 18. There's only a week between the end of this season and the start of season 6 so we're running a really tight ship this year. We'll have an exact date for you soon.
Go ahead and sound out in the comment section right about now. For those who haven't captained before, it's really not that much work. I will provide you with a cheat sheet containing everyone's stats so all you have to do is spend a couple of hours deciding who to pick and that's pretty much it. You do, however, have to be available for ...
The Season 6 BECW Draft will take place on Sunday, April 21, probably around 3pm ET give or take a few hours. That's the day after Bendo vs. Melendo which serves as this year's Grand Prix Final.
Thanks to the strong response to our cry for help, it looks like we are all set to carry on without the help of Mr Zater, who is giving up high speed internet in favour of poon tang. Paulo Filho's Psychiatrist will be taking over live post duties, Violent Newt will be helping out with the live spreadsheets and I'll be in touch with the potential recappers tomorrow. On behalf of the BECW, thanks for being awesome, you guys.
So, what are you waiting for? LETS MUTHERFUKERS
