Cool like Jones, how I broke my toe.

Three years ago, I decided to spend two months in France, to try to hook up with a girl that was studying there for a year. Once there, I checked BJJ clubs and found a great one. Like many French bjj player, the teacher had a strong judo base and on my first class, he taped me three times with a choke I didn't know existed and that I haven't seen since then.

I was pretty excited to train there, even more so when I learned that they were working on a new dojo. I had nothing else better to do, so I would be able to help them with the dojo. I figured it would be the perfect way to stay busy while flirting with the lovely lady.

Unfortunately, fate had something else in mind. On my second class, we were drilling take downs and I was going super light. I did the takedown which took me in side control. For some reason I decided to switch my base and go into kesa gatame. In that simple motion (once again super light) my pinky toe broke and was flipped 90 degrees. Not only that, but the skin under the toe ripped apart.

Although I felt it happen, it wasn't really painful (the doctor told me it's normal). I put my socks back on and drove half an hour to go back to the girl's place and then the hospital.

The fracture was no big deal but since there was a tear in the skin, they couldn't put a fixed cast and they made something I could remove twice a day to clean the wound. This definitely slowed down the healing process and I spend the remaining of this trip with the cast. Walking was a pain in the ass, especially since walking in Europe is the best thing to do on a low budget.

Anyway, now the toe is fine although crooked. I don't know if it's the same for a big toe but I'm sure Jones will get it back 100%. Hopefully this was another freak accident and his lengthy Bones will hold better next time.
